The Opportunity

Tilt is The People’s Credit Company. We’ve extended $4.5B+ in credit not by following the old rules, but by trusting that people are "good for it." To keep that promise as we scale, we need backend systems that are as resilient as they are radical.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who does more than just write code—you solve problems at the root. At Tilt, a Senior Engineer owns their workstream. You’ll join a team where you aren't just a passenger on the roadmap; you are a driver, helping us navigate the complexities of real-time financial signals and high-volume transaction systems.

Tilt is remote-first, but we aren't distant. We gather at least three times a year for company offsites to sharpen our connection. For this role, we are hiring across Mexico, Canada, and Australia.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Own the Workstream: You don’t just "contribute" to projects; you own them from conception to deployment. You’ll take high-level product goals and translate them into stable, scalable backend architecture.

• Master a Fluid Scope: Engineers at Tilt are not siloed. Your work will span credit cards, loans, and foundational technical debt based on sprint needs and your own interests. You’ll go where the impact is greatest, ensuring our core infrastructure evolves alongside our product offerings.

• Solve from First Principles: When a system hits a snag, you don’t just patch it. You articulate the root cause, define the trade-offs of various solutions, and implement the one that serves our customers best.

• Architect Seamless Experiences: Build and refine the APIs that power our 450,000+ five-star reviews. You’ll ensure that "instant" remains instant, even as we integrate 250+ unique financial signals.

• Partner Across the Org: You’ll collaborate as a peer with Credit, Finance, and Compliance teams. You speak their language—understanding that technical decisions are business decisions.

• Modernize the Craft: You’ll leverage AI-powered tools (Cursor, Augment, Factory) not just for speed, but to maintain a high bar for code quality and security, freeing you up to focus on the hardest architectural challenges.

Why You’re a Great Fit

• The Experience: You have a proven track record (typically 5+ years) of building backend systems that don’t flinch under pressure. You’ve scaled consumer-facing products and understand the weight of handling a customer’s financial life.

• Language Agnostic Mastery: We primarily use .NET (C#), but we hire great engineers, not just specific resumes. Whether your background is in Java, Go, Python, or Ruby, you have the technical depth to master our stack quickly because you understand distributed systems, concurrency, and high-performance architecture.

• Unwavering Clarity: You are a clear communicator who can explain complex technical trade-offs without the jargon. You are assertive in your approach but soulful in your collaboration.

• Adaptable & Curious: You thrive in an environment where you can pivot between product-facing features and deep infrastructure work. You aren't afraid of technical debt—you see it as an opportunity to leave the code better than you found it.
