Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform to help build and mature the shared engineering foundations of our data platform.

This role is responsible for designing and implementing platform capabilities, reusable frameworks, automation, and secure integration patterns that help teams build and operate trusted data products with greater consistency. The work spans platform engineering, data workflows, infrastructure automation, and secure systems integration.

The ideal candidate brings a strong software engineering foundation, experience with cloud-based data platforms, and a practical mindset for building durable systems that improve developer productivity, reduce manual effort, and strengthen platform operations.

We value hands-on engineers who can own platform capabilities end to end, from design and implementation through deployment, operational readiness, and continuous improvement.

As part of our broader engineering direction, we are also moving toward a more AI-enabled developer experience. This includes modern development workflows and tools that improve productivity, while building the platform foundations needed to support practical AI-assisted engineering patterns over time.

Role Scope

This is a senior engineering role focused on the shared platform layer. It is not intended to own every data product or absorb every operational responsibility across the organization. The focus is on building strong foundations, reusable capabilities, and scalable engineering patterns that support the broader platform ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build shared platform capabilities that support trusted data products across teams and domains

  • Develop internal services, tooling, and automation that improve platform usability and reduce manual effort

  • Create reusable engineering patterns for ingestion, transformation, publishing, and operational workflows

  • Build and maintain platform components, automation, and engineering utilities using Python and other appropriate technologies

  • Contribute to the architecture and evolution of the core data platform and supporting engineering workflows

  • Use infrastructure as code and CI/CD practices to improve consistency, repeatability, and maintainability

  • Help define secure integration approaches for internally managed tools and connected SaaS solutions

  • Strengthen platform operability through observability, supportable production patterns, and practical automation

  • Partner with engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to translate platform needs into scalable technical solutions

  • Contribute to a more AI-enabled developer experience by applying AI-assisted development practices where they improve engineering productivity and workflow efficiency

  • Raise the technical bar through sound engineering judgment, thoughtful design, and strong coding and review practices

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 5+ years of software engineering, platform engineering, or data platform engineering experience

  • Strong programming experience in Python

  • Experience building production-grade systems, services, APIs, internal platforms, or engineering tooling

  • Deep hands-on experience working with AWS in cloud-based engineering environments

  • Experience with data platforms, data-intensive systems, or engineering workflows that support data products

  • Experience with Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools

  • Experience with CI/CD workflows such as GitLab CI/CD or similar delivery automation tools

  • Experience designing systems with attention to reliability, maintainability, and operational supportability

  • Familiarity with secure connectivity, private networking, and enterprise integration patterns

  • Ability to build reusable frameworks and shared capabilities rather than one-off solutions

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across engineering and cross-functional teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building or supporting internal platform tooling for engineering or data users

  • Experience designing and operating shared data platform components at scale

  • Experience with modern data platform technologies such as Snowflake, dbt, Redshift or similar tools

  • Experience integrating third-party SaaS tools into enterprise platform environments

  • Experience with metadata, governance, lineage, or data quality workflows

  • Experience improving developer experience through templates, automation, self-service, or platform tooling

  • Experience with observability and operational practices for platform services and data workflows

  • Experience using modern AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude, or similar tools in day-to-day engineering workflows

  • Familiarity with MCP-style tooling or related integration patterns that support AI-assisted engineering workflows

What Success Looks Like

  • Stronger shared platform capabilities for teams building trusted data products

  • Reduced manual effort through improved tooling and automation

  • Reusable engineering patterns that improve consistency across platform workflows

  • Stronger production readiness, observability, and operational supportability

  • Improved developer experience for teams building on the platform

  • Practical progress toward AI-enabled engineering workflows that improve productivity without adding unnecessary complexity

Why Join This Role

This is an opportunity to help shape the engineering backbone of a modern data platform. The work has broad impact and clear purpose: build the shared services, frameworks, automation, and integration patterns that make the platform easier to use, easier to operate, and better positioned to support analytics and AI.

This role is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys building durable systems, simplifying complexity, and creating foundations that help other teams move faster with greater consistency.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
